Dear Friends,
OK, OK, we admit it. We're long overdue to write you and we're really, truly sorry. We know, we know ... it's been months.
No, we didn't forget about you ... ehhhh .... look, it was summer; we were really busy and things ... well, things kind of spiraled out of control and we forgot to write for so long and then we felt really awkward about having not written in SO long and ... well, it just got away from us is all.
OK, jokes aside, we ARE sorry that it's taken so long for us to send news. Looks like our monthly newsletter just turned into a quarterly! ;-) Here's the latest in our neck of the woods:
What's New In Products?
Anyone remember our Single Malt Whiskey? We introduced it last summer, sold out the pilot batches to great acclaim and then ... it disappeared due to some unanticipated issues in up-sizing the recipe. Well we're pleased to announce the kinks have been worked out, the barrels are happily resting and Single Malt will be back in stock by Christmas. Keep an eye out for a brief announcement in mid-December - we can't wait to taste that deliciously rounded, butterscotch-toffee goodness and to share it with you all.
In other news, Brothers' Cut Bourbon Whiskey is (temporarily) back in stock in 375ml only; new batches of Spiced are in stock for your holiday enjoyment and .... (drum roll please)
... we have a special limited run of Brothers' Cut BARREL PROOF Bourbon Whiskey ready for release in our tasting room only the Friday after Thanksgiving. :) All the complexity and character of BCB in a cask strength release? Yes please!
Black Friday and Small Business Saturday
Take a break from the big box stores next weekend and come on out to our tasting room for a true local shopping experience. We'll be doing our usual fun, free distillery tour and sampling, but here's the good part: mix and match a six-pack of our spirits (in any combo of sizes) and we'll give you 10% off your entire purchase, including any apparel, gifts or cold case items you want to add on! Plus we'll be debuting our new Brothers' Cut BARREL PROOF Bourbon Whiskey - at only 174 half-bottles, this special release product will not last long. Legal disclaimer: offer applies to purchases in our tasting room only on Friday, November 24th, 2017 and Saturday, November 25th, 2017. Must be 21+ years of age to sample or purchase spirits.
Winter Markets!
The season is upon us and we are making the most of it. Here's where we'll be on Saturday mornings for the next few months:
CNY Regional Market in Syracuse - every Saturday from 8am to 2pm all winter long. Find us in the F Shed, Stall #45 (next to the restrooms).
Oneida County Public Market in Utica's historic Union Station - 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 9am to 1pm through Dec. 9th.
20/East Winter Market at Spruce Ridge in Cazenovia (on Erieville Road near Nelson Corners) - 1st Saturdays from 10am to 1pm. Come see us in the greenhouse!
Don't forget, we're open for visitors at the distillery on Fridays from 12 to 5pm, Saturdays from 12 to 5pm and Sundays from 12 to 5pm. Your host will be a member of the Carvell family, and your tour and tasting will be free of charge. No reservations required; just come see us for a singular spirits experience. While you're here, you might want to browse the shelves for cool t-shirts, glassware and other holiday gifts, or check out the cold case for some great local beers, ciders and other beverages.
Special Fall Events
We are now doing so many weekly markets, in-store tastings and special on-premise events that listing them here would make for a fairly tedious newsletter. If you want to know exactly where we'll be any particular day, just go to www.oldhomedistillers.com and click the link for EVENTS. All the details on our many doings, all in one place. Easy does it. We do, however, have a few big events coming up:
SyracuseFirst's 8th Annual Buy Local Bash - Monday, November 20th, 5pm to 9pm at the F Shed at the CNY Regional Market. We'll be pouring, chatting and selling our wares, so come on out and see us! While you're there, you might as well take advantage of the many other great food and drink samples, enjoy the live music and maybe even find some unique holiday gifts! SKY Armory Night Market - Saturday, November 25th, 3pm to 10pm at SKY Armory. We love urban pop-up markets, and this is one of the best! Come see us, check out the Armory and support awesome local vendors. For more information please visit info.skyarmory.com/night-market.
Old Home Distillers' Two-Year Anniversary Party - Saturday, December 16th, 2pm to 4pm at the Old Home Distillers' Tasting Room. We'll be celebrating two years of creating great spirits and making new friends with tours, free samples (for those of age), a free spread of delicious local barbecue from our friends at Holy Smoke BBQ, plenty of door prizes and lots of fun for the whole family. Whether you're a longtime local or a new visitor, you're welcome at our place. :)
Where Else Can We Be Found?
Our products are now available in liquor stores, taverns and eateries from Binghamton to Plattsburgh and from Niagara Falls to Long Island - check out the full list on our website, www.oldhomedistillers.com. We are willing to travel ANYWHERE in New York State to bring the goodness to a venue near you, so let us know where you need us! Long story short, your local liquor store can definitely obtain our products; you need only ask for Old Home by name.
Don Cazentre's New Book!
We were fortunate to be included in a new book by local author and Post-Standard drinks writer Don Cazentre: Spirits & Cocktails of Upstate New York. If you love NYS spirits or are a craft cocktail enthusiast, then you definitely want to check out Don's latest work. You can find it for sale in our tasting room, in quality bookstores throughout the state or on Amazon.
Cocktail Corner
Feeling the chill? Fighting a cold? Try Mother's Hot Toddy, featuring our Brothers' Cut Bourbon Whiskey, for a delicious home remedy:
Mother's Hot Toddy
1.5 oz. Brothers' Cut Bourbon Whiskey (or just 1 oz. of Brothers' Cut Barrel Proof Bourbon Whiskey!)
1 tbsp. honey
0.5 oz. fresh lemon juice
lemon wedge
slice of fresh ginger root
4-5 oz. hot water
Add whiskey, honey, and lemon juice to a mug. Top off with hot water, add lemon and ginger, and stir well. Allow mixture to steep for a few minutes, then enjoy by the fire!
